A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I’m a little bit of a drifter. Right now I’m on the cusp of a potential new job starting. I am always open to new possibilities. But, usually you can find me hanging out at my house reading a book or cooking.

2. Why do you make art?

I think it’s not really much of a choice. I could never not make art. Art is a part of who I am. Art is a persistently and stubbornly human thing that we can’t help but do. When I was very little, I was in one of the first art therapy programs at a major hospital. Art comforts me, and helps me feel like I have a goal in life that I’m always working towards.

3. What inspires you?

I think this is a hard question because the art that I enjoy intellectually and the art that makes me feel something is not always the same thing. I love watching people doing everyday things, I love waking up early and watching the sunrise. I love very deep intelligent art the same way I love seeing a preschooler paint. I feel inspired by things that feel soft and precious to me. I sometimes just want to capture the idea of being human inside a small snapshot.

4. What/who are your influences?

I’m a huge fan of Marina Abramovic, although I don’t intend on making performance art. I love Holly Warburton’s digital art. I like soft Impressionism, but I also love pushing boundaries and controversy like Ai WeiWei. I’m a consistent contradiction.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Marina Abramovic.
