A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

When I’m not making art I am raising two kids and also assisting other artists with their art.

2. Why do you make art?

I can’t help it, nothing else gives me this kind of deep satisfaction and I am not that good at anything else. Art to me is the purest and most essential way to engage with the world I live in.

3. What inspires you?

I am inspired by poetic moments found in the most mundane circumstances.

4. What/who are your influences?

My influences are painters who are submerged in the meaning and power of the painted image, like Luck Tuymans, Gerhard Richter, Giorgio Morandi, and Lois Dodd.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

I would love to have coffee with Patti Smith. I would meet her in the West Village, she’ll have some black coffee, I will have milk and sugar in mine, and we’ll meet on an autumn morning, and she would let me photograph her sitting in front of me. I will first photograph just her hands holding her cup, and then her face, smiling.
