A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I paint full time, but I’m also an avid gardener and I help others with garden design and light maintenance. I also do some interior design and color consultations when I’m talked into it. (I’m a retired interior designer.)

2. Why do you make art?

I started painting on canvas after twenty years of painting on walls (faux finishes and murals.) I started with abstract art because I love color and in recent years have concentrated on developing my skills with photo realism, particularly with florals and animals. I paint because there isn’t anything I’d rather do with my time!

3. What inspires you?

Back to my garden, which is my greatest inspiration. I also live close to Lake Michigan, so my abstract landscapes are inspired by my love of the beauty of Michigan.

4. What/who are your influences?

I am currently influenced by the art of Thomas Darnell and the Australian artists who are doing great work with photorealistic florals; Julia Battisti, Diana Watson, etc.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

Georgia O’Keeffe to talk about her floral inspirations.
